What is a grant?
A grant is basically any monetary aid. Grants are often given as forms of financial aid to college students who have financial need, but there are many different kinds of grants. Grants and scholarships generally do not have to be repaid. Some people perceive grants to be more need-based aid, while scholarships generally carry the connotation of merit-based aid. These are just how the words are popularly known, but in reality, grants and scholarships can both be need or merit based. It all depends on the specific instrument of financial aid.
